Damaged barometer Barometers for repair and restoration arrive in all states: from boxes of bits with a request that they be put back together again in working order, to complete instruments requiring a full service and overhaul.
Stephens' Inks Thermometer A new 965mm (38")tube was blown for a 1930s Stephens' Inks promotional thermometer.
At the other end of the size scale, one of the smallest thermometers that we have repaired was an antique ivory pen thermometer that had a tube only 50mm (2") in length.
The company’s skilled craftsmen can repair and refinish damaged wood and metal work. When possible, broken or damaged parts are repaired. When this is impossible, replacement parts will be matched to the originals as closely as possible. All barometers should be handled and moved with care although aneroid instruments are much less delicate.
WARNING Great care must be taken if a mercury tube is broken as mercury is poisonous. Any mercury that is spilt should be recovered carefully and kept in a closed container. Advice is available should you experience any problems or need to dispose of spilt mercury.
